Re. Doctor Faustus

Please allow me to introduce myself . . .

Someone at the end of today's (Thursday's) class was mentioning the fact that Faustus traded his soul for 24 years of magical powers, and the question was "Why 24?" After thinking about it, I'm wondering whether the 24 years are supposed to coincide with the 24 hours of the day. At the beginning of the 24 years, his powers were fresh and new, it was the beginning of the "day." By the end of the 24 years, the "day" was almost ended, Faustus was close to the end of his life, and "darkness" was closing in. I'm not sure if that's what Marlow was going for, it's just a thought. If anyone feels like summoning Marlow's spirit this weekend to ask him, let me know (but i wouldn't recommend trading your soul in order to do it!). =)

A good thought, Luke. One life is as if only a day.

If anyone does summon the spirit of Marlowe, please ask him to visit our class.
